Chris Killip (1946 -2020), a native of the Isle of Man, returned home in the 1970s to document the people and the culture of the island. He was co-founder and creative director of the Side Gallery in Newcastle. He continued to work in the documentary tradition throughout his career. Killip moved to the US in 1991 and was professor of visual and environmental studies at Harvard until 1994. Notable Publications include Isle of Man: A Book about the Manx, 1980 with text by John Berger, and In Flagrante, 1988. a poignant portrait of England’s industrial northwest.
