Thomas Joshua Cooper has been singularly committed to making photographs of the natural world for nearly fifty-five years. He is a visionary explorer of the remote edges of the earth, of the dynamic sources of its energy, an artist who has attempted to discover the narrow meeting places between the ancient elements of earth, air, fire and water and bring us to his understanding of their essence. Yet the synaptic space between these ancient elements is unknowable to us except in our ability to imagine what transpires there. Cooper’s vision thrives in that imagination.
